Lophophora fricii is a rare and captivating cactus species, perfect for serious collectors and plant enthusiasts. Native to the arid regions of northeastern Mexico, particularly Coahuila and Nuevo León, this cactus stands out with its globular, flattened stem, which can reach up to 12 cm in diameter and 6 cm in height. The stem’s blue-green to gray-green coloration, combined with its numerous low, rounded ribs and dense, white, woolly areoles, gives it a distinct and appealing appearance. In the summer, Lophophora fricii blooms with small, funnel-shaped flowers in shades of pink to reddish-pink, adding a touch of elegance to its unique form. This cactus thrives in bright, indirect light and requires a well-draining soil mix, such as a cactus blend with added sand or perlite. It should be watered sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, and kept above 50°F (10°C) to prevent frost damage. Propagation is primarily through seeds, though offsets can occasionally be used. By cultivating Lophophora fricii, you not only enhance your plant collection with a fascinating and beautiful specimen but also contribute to the conservation of this remarkable species.
